International
Sumo
Federation

Kimarite is the name given to the decisive techniques used at the moment of victory. There are generally said to be 48 basic techniques and their reversible. The International Sumo Federation assumes 70 basic techniques, with 10 extra techniques added. The following illustrations include throwing techniques (Nage, Kake, Sori and Hineri) and pushing techniques (Tsuki, Oshi, and Yori). The various sumo techniques are very exciting and enjoyable to watch, even for those with no previous experience of the sport.

In addition to the formally agreed 70 decisive techniques described above, the following ten techniques have been in use since ancient times.
